What’s a typical trackday like for Team RZER?

Here’s a look into what a typical track day outing is like for us

On the predawn hours on 18th July’19, our team from RZER met up and made the trip up north to Sepang. We decided to go up a day earlier to solve the brake related issues that plagued us the last time we were testing on the circuit in Apr’19.

A few hours later, we reached Sepang around 11am, and went to a workshop near the circuit to check on the car. Our car was parked in a workshop nearby the circuit, the owner of the workshop graciously allowed us to work on our car. Our mechanics, Alan and Ren Chuang from ST Powered unpacked their tools and started work on the car once the shutters were opened.

Rims off, and things to do:
Replacing the cracked front brake rotors
Replacing the front brake pads
Replace and bleeding the brake master cylinder

Work went on throughout the day, we made much progress and prepped the car to be towed over to the circuit the next day

19th July, The Next Thing track day

We registered our car for the TNT track day in the morning. Being new rotors and pads, we had to run in our brake rotors and pads first. We didn’t want any warpage to the new rotors. After a couple of slow laps, we tried to get used to the car again with our low boost.

It was a pretty hot day so we didn’t want to put extra wear on the car and ended up only doing 2 hot laps on low boost during the day for a best time of 2.14.328 spending most of the time making sure everything was functioning as it should. The journey to building the car up to it’s current state has been a huge roller coaster of ups and downs.

20th July, Traction Circle Club, Judgement Day Round 2

It was the event we were looking forward to. Our friends from ST Powered were already there and helped us to secure a pit as there were not enough pits (some were under renovation).

After securing the pits, we got through the drivers briefing with no hitches and went back to get our car ready.

Our friend Zhengliang with his Evo X GSR! ZL’s X will probably be seen at Sepang more often in the future, keep a look out for him! He’ll be getting faster ^^

We were in the AWD Open class (semi slicks), which was put together with the street FWD turbo (street tyres) and the street RWD class (street tyres) in Group A. TCC assigned this group to the 1540hr and 1900hr slot for our timed run for Judgement Day.

For our 1540hr run, we used mid boost and our used 050s from April and the day before. We did an easy 2.14.095. Time for some fresh rubber!

As we waited patiently for 1900hr, we swapped into our fresh 050s for the 1900hr run and turned up the boost.

For the first hotlap for the second run, we encountered some traffic and did a 2.11.107. Bert tried to cool the tyres down in a cool down lap out on track and attempted another consecutive hot lap. The lap had less traffic but as the tyres were still pretty hot, the car encountered some understeer during the later part of the lap. Crossing the line at 2.10.968. Could more time be shaved off?

Fly-by of the 2.14.095 lap

We tried to attempt another hotlap late that night, right at the end of the trackday but encountered heavy traffic again for another 2.11.xx lap. Nevertheless, we were pretty ecstatic with the earlier 2.10.968 lap. We ended up 1st in the AWD Open (Semi Slicks) class and fastest overall at the TCC Judgement Day R2 ’19.

Our guys packed up and we loaded the #RZEREVO up onto the tow truck for the journey back to Singapore.

We will be back at Sepang in October to try for a clear lap for the #RZEREVO. The #RZEREVO is currently still a road registered street car, and weighs ~1400kg. We are the fastest car to lap Sepang Circuit on Semi Slicks, be it road registered or full track car.

We will try to get into the 2.0x region at sepang on semi slicks before deciding which way to go in our quest for a lower lap time. We fully understand that we would have to swap into a full track car if we really would like to improve on the car, not to mention our wear and tear due to the weight.

We also hope to be able to take part at World Time Attack Challenge in 2020 and are actively looking for sponsors to help our small privateer team.

Meanwhile, we are currently preparing the car to attend our next event, International Auto Modified, at Singapore Expo Hall 6A on the 24th and 25th Aug’19.

We hope to see you guys there, also, we apologize if we can’t reply all our PMs or DMs on our social media pages, maybe we will consolidate the common questions we get and post them up with our answers soon! Thanks to Rankine, Tecky and Team RZER members for the photos!
